City Transport Exhibition held under the theme “Boosting Public Transport: Action!” for the first time in the Middle East & North African Region, opens this morning (Sunday April 10th).
His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board and Executive Director of the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), welcomed the participants and attendants of the Congress & Exhibition saying: “Under the leadership of HH Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, and his brother HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice-President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, the UAE has witnessed extensive growth in all fields shaping it into a key commercial hub with a robust and diverse economy. The UAE succeeded in attracting many investors and business leaders, thanks to its global horizon, free economic enterprise policy, focus on delivery of best-in-class services and its excellent infrastructure in all fields; particularly in transport sector which has culminated in the opening of the Dubai Metro and the commencement of Al Ittihad Rail Project.
“The UITP Congress is the pinnacle of transportation and public transport events worldwide, and the UAE has won the privilege of hosting the Congress following a fierce competition with Melbourne (Australia) and Singapore; both cities have an excellent record in transport and public transport field. Thus the UAE has become the first country in the Middle East and North Africa to win the right of hosting this Congress since the UITP was founded more than a century ago. Public transport operators from around the globe, from Japan to Switzerland and from Norway to the US, will demonstrate how it is possible to adopt a customer-oriented culture and the best global practices to meet the evolving needs of consumers, develop a portfolio of services to offer integrated mobility solutions and ultimately turn travel time into a positive experience.

In the ever evolving customer-focused society, citizens benefit from a growing choice of transport modes, and compare transport performance with other services. They expect mobility solutions that are quick, safe, convenient, reliable, clean and affordable. To achieve this, public transport operators need to meet two challenges: on the one hand, they must keep pace with their clients’ needs in order to deliver quality innovative services and make people change their attitudes and behavior; on the other, they must change their corporate culture from a fleet manager to a customer-oriented company and boost the sector’s potential and attractiveness.

French Minister: UITP Congress in Dubai promises to be the most successful

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 169px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-0lQ93vaYobo/TYr74KWumFI/AAAAAAAAAM4/Nj9sgJdfyP4/s400/%25D9%2585%25D8%25B7%25D8%25B1%2B%25D8%25A7%25D9%2584%25D8%25B7%25D8%25A7%25D9%258A%25D8%25B1%2B%25D8%25AE%25D9%2584%25D8%25A7%25D9%2584%2B%25D8%25A7%25D8%25B3%25D8%25AA%25D9%2582%25D8%25A8%25D8%25A7%25D9%2584%25D9%2587%2B%25D8%25A7%25D9%2584%25D9%2588%25D8%25B2%25D9%258A%25D8%25B1%2B%25D8%25A7%25D9%2584%25D9%2581%25D8%25B1%25D9%2586%25D8%25B3%25D9%258A.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5587555229977450578" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 220px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-sH5xe_fILdg/TYr61iwmveI/AAAAAAAAAMw/HgJCT18Cppw/s400/%25D9%2585%25D8%25B7%25D8%25B1%2B%25D8%25A7%25D9%2584%25D8%25B7%25D8%25A7%25D9%258A%25D8%25B1%2B%25D8%25AE%25D9%2584%25D8%25A7%25D9%2584%2B%25D8%25A7%25D8%25B3%25D8%25AA%25D9%2582%25D8%25A8%25D8%25A7%25D9%2584%25D9%2587%2B%25D8%25A7%25D9%2584%25D9%2588%25D8%25B2%25D9%258A%25D8%25B1%2B%25D8%25A7%25D9%2584%25D9%2581%25D8%25B1%25D9%2586%25D8%25B3%25D9%258A%2B1.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5587554085477203426" />

His Excellency H.E. Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board & Executive Director of the Roads & Transport Authority (RTA). Al Tayer also announced a revision in the working hours of paid parking zones during Ramadan where the morning session will remain as it is (from 08.00 am to 01.00 pm), and the evening session will start from 07.00 pm to 12.00 am (midnight), thus maintaining the same number of hours set for using parking zones in the evening session without any increase.
RTA Chairman of the Board and Executive Director also announced that RTA was keen on delivering top class services to the users of transport means to meet the needs and expectations of customers. “Fixing the metro service time during the holy month of Ramadan came in response to an opinion poll of the public and metro riders about the operational timing. It also came in response to a comprehensive study of mobility movement in the Emirate during Ramadan and the working hours in the public and private sector organizations. The decision also takes into consideration the movement of people which soars after Iftar and Taraweeh prayers and continues late into the night.

Commenting on the working hours of the of the paid parking zones in Ramadan, Al Tayer said: “Revising the parking timing in the evening session was intended to ease the pressure on parking users in the afternoon up to Iftar time as the parking use will be exempted from 01.00 pm up to 07.00 pm, and the fees will apply from 07.00 pm to 12.00 am (midnight) in order to avail the parking space for users. The movement of the public within markets and business districts during Ramadan shifts from day time to the period after Iftar. Thus it was inevitable to take a decision that goes in parallel line with the commercial activity in the Emirate to ensure the availability of parking space for the public during and after Iftar, streamline the traffic movement in all areas of the Emirate, minimize the negative use of parking, and ensure the availability of parking space during the business peak hours of Ramadan”.
Al Tayer concluded by expressing aspiration to see more cooperation of the public with RTA efforts in streamlining the parking process, particularly in heavily populated areas for the benefit of all users.

RTA inaugurates Water Taxi

<img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; Moreover, the two lines (X10, 12X) had also been abolished as of May 15th this year”.

It is noteworthy that canceling and merging of routes comes as a result of elaborate studies and extensive site surveys involving several key factors such as the size of demand for the public bus service, and the enforcement of the infrastructure, such as roads, streets, bridges and tunnels, in order to offer the best services to all segments of the community.

Al Tayer honours some Dubai Metro commuters for using mass transit modes

H.E. Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board and Executive Director of the Roads & Transport Authority (RTA), yesterday honoured some of Dubai Metro users, in an initiative that aims to encourage the use of mass transit modes. Flanked by the CEO of Rail Agency Adnan Al Hamadi, and the Director of Marketing & Corporate Communication Peyman Younes Parham, Al Tayer honoured a randomly selected sample of Dubai Metro passengers at Noor Islamic Bank Station through, and offered them Nol Cards with a 500 dirham e-purse.

“This initiative reflects RTA attention to increase public transport ridership in keeping with RTA Strategic Plan of providing integrated mass transit modes; which is aligned with Dubai Strategic Plan (Infrastructure Sector) that envisages the provision of integrated road & transport systems to ensure smooth traffic flow and top-class safety standards for the system users. RTA is working tirelessly to upgrade mass transit modes to make them the favourite means of travel in the emirate; namely the Dubai Metro, public buses, marine transport modes (abras, water bus, and water taxi) and taxicabs. The ultimate strategic objective of the RTA is to minimize the use of private vehicles on the roads and increase the share of mass transit systems from 9.7 per cent in 2009 to 34 per cent in 2020,” added Al Tayer.

“The initiative also aims at showcasing the role of Dubai Emirate in supporting the initiatives that contribute to improving the environment and sustained development, and promote the advanced mass transit system in the emirate; which currently includes Dubai Metro, buses, water bus, abra, water taxi, taxicabs, and soon the tram and the Ferry.
“Dubai currently boasts integrated mass transit systems and we are working on enhancing the integration of all public transport modes to deliver best-in-class services to the community. In 2009 RTA public transport modes lifted more than 288.777 million passengers, with daily ridership in excess of 850,000 persons, and this number is likely to grow with the opening of the remaining station on the Red Line. Dubai Metro is expected to lift about 35 million passengers in 2010, and the number of metro users is expected to pick up sharply with the operation of the Green Line in August 2011.
“Since its inauguration on 09.09.09, the number of Metro users jumped from about 40,000 passengers per day to more than 120,000 passengers per day for the time being, and so far the Dubai Metro has lifted more than 19 million persons.

“Dubai Taxicabs currently make about 192,000 journeys per day, lifting in the process about 385,000 passengers. The total number of journeys made by Dubai Taxis in 2009 topped 70 million journeys in which about 140,45 million passengers were lifted. The number of public bus users in 2009 approached 120 million passengers with a daily ridership of about 325,000 passengers. Meanwhile there are about 17 million commuters who used marine transit modes that cover abras and the water bus. Abras currently lift about 50,000 passengers per day, and the water bus has a daily ridership of about 1500 passengers.

RTA launches ‘Read More’ initiative to boost reading habits among students in the presence of Al Qatami and Al Tayer

<img style="MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board and Executive Director of the Roads & Transport Authority (RTA), announced the opening of 7 stations on the Red Line of Dubai Metro on 30 April 2010 and 3 more on 15 May 2010.

“The Consortium undertaking Dubai Metro Project is set to complete all works on the remaining 18 stations on the Red Line of Dubai Metro project on 25 April 2010 and 7 stations of which will be opened on 30 April 2010; namely: Emirates, Airport Terminal 1, Al Karama, Emirates Towers, Dubai Internet City, Marina and Ibn Battuta stations. 3 others are planned to be opened on 15 May 2010, namely: GGICO, World Trade Centre and Al Qouz stations, and the remaining 8 stations on the Red Line will be opened over the next months of this year” said Al Tayer.

Al Tayer commented on the criteria upon which the new stations have been selected for opening and said: “Stations have been selected based on the extent of population density in the locality served by each station so as to provide convenient services to the inhabitants in the neighbourhood, availability of commercial activities in the area served by each station, availability of government activities in the vicinity of each station, the station integration with other transport modes such as buses & water transport means, and the projected number of commuters at each station”.
“As RTA is keen on maintaining the safety of Dubai Metro users, systems and installations, and assigning considerable importance to the safety & readiness of operating systems of trains and stations as well as phased trial runs, it observed a strict compliance with the highest global safety standards, sought the services of international organizations to assess the safety standards throughout the project phases, introduced cutting-edge rail technology, and provided all means of comfort and luxury to passengers” he said.
Al Tayer added: “RTA has carried out site surveys for the neighbourhood of the Dubai Metro Stations opening shortly and accordingly opened up new bus routes to feed the metro stations. 28 buses are being deployed to link the metro stations with the surrounding areas and the service is set to run at 13-20 minutes headway (intervals)”.
RTA Chairman of the Board and Executive Director commented on the metro ridership and said: “Since it had been launched on 9/9/2009 till the end of March last, the Dubai Metro lifted 13.68 million persons and the daily ridership has reached 80k passengers. These numbers are set to rise with the opening of the ten stations this April and next May, and the total ridership of Dubai Metro is expected to hit 35 million passengers by the end of 2010. The number of the metro users is poised to receive a further boost with the operation of the Green Line in August 2011; which will serve vital areas with commercial & government activities and huge population density”.
“The huge investments pumped by the Government of Dubai to uplift the infrastructure of transportation sector has paid dividends and proved effective. The increase in the number of mass transit mode users reflect improvement in the culture of using public transport by all segments of the community and the drive was particularly helped by the metro service. RTA public transport means, including the Dubai Metro, public buses, water transport and taxis, have lifted more than 288.777 million passengers in 2009 and the daily ridership of mass transit modes topped 842k passengers” stated Al Tayer.

“Using mass transportation has a host of benefits that include providing physical & psychological comfort to the user, minimizing crashes, economizing on fuel & maintenance costs of private vehicles and ridding the public from the hassles of finding parking spaces for their vehicles; which has become a challenge facing modern cities worldwide. Besides that, the use of public transportation effectively reduces environmental pollution resulting from the use of massive numbers of private vehicles; which triggers many ailments including respiratory system illnesses” said Al Tayer in a concluding statement.

RTA scoops 10 Awards of Dubai Govt Excellence Program

Mohammed bin Rashid, Hamdan bin Mohammed and Maktoum bin Mohammed Honouring the RTA.

The Roads & Transport Authority (RTA) offered deepest thanks and appreciation to HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai for patronizing the excellence and pioneering drive to boost the performance of the government sector, as illustrated in the establishment of Dubai Government Excellence Program (DGEP) in 1997. In case early requests exceed 5, the Agency will place the plate in the open online auction where everybody can take part.

Customers can also pay their dues online by using Dubai e-Government online payment system, where they can effect payment through the e-Dirham, credit card, or bank account.

For more information please click on the link:

Early Registration Service for distinguished number plates

RTA inaugurates online taxi booking service

RTA's Public Transport Agency; has recently launched Online Taxi Booking service, known as e-Taxi. RTA offers this service to the residents and visitors of Dubai as it is vitally important during events that warrant prior arrangements to be made by hotels, businesses and organizations in certain occasions such as Dubai Shopping Festival. Through this service, the customer can book the required taxicab well in advance to ensure timely arrival at the required destination.

The online taxi booking service is based on having the customer’s details and address saved in the Dispatch system at the Public Transport Agency; which makes it easy to process the booking in subsequent times. A taxi can be booked 24 / 7 through accessing the link (http://rta.ae/etaxi), and this service is currently available for hotels only.
The Online taxi booking service would be fully available to the public and all segments of the community at the end of this year.

RTA diverts traffic on Sharjah-bound Emirates Rd to Dubai Bypass, Damascus and Beirut Roads as ponds flood Sharjah

More than 8m gallons pumped out

Route to Sharjah

Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced the diversion of traffic on Sharjah-bound Emirates Road to a number of alternative roads such as Al Ittihad, Beirut, Damascus, and Dubai Bypass Roads, due to the large amount of rainwater accumulated on Emirates Road, past "National Paint" Bridge in the Emirate of Sharjah.

According Ahmed Hashim Bahrozyan, Head of RTA Emergency & Crises Team, RTA had coordinated with the General HQ of Dubai Police the diversion of traffic on Emirates Road at the Interchange of Dubai-Al Ain Road rightward towards Dubai Bypass Road, and northward towards Al Khail Road & Business Bay Crossing, and from there to various parts of Dubai. As for the traffic at the interchange of Emirates Road with the Dubai-Hatta Road, it was converted rightward to the Dubai Bypass Road, and northward to Ras Al Khor Road and from there to various parts of the emirate. Traffic at the interchanges of Rashidiya and Al Nahda on Emirates Road had also been converted rightward to Al Khawaneej Road, and northward to Beirut, Damascus and Al Ittihad Roads.

For his part Hussain Al Banna, Assistant of RTA Emergency & Crises Team, said that RTA Team had dealt with the instable weather condition since Saturday morning, through deploying about 100 RTA employees and inspectors after a sandstorm struck in various locations to ensure the soundness of roads and traffic, as well as the effectiveness of various traffic systems and signage. During the rain, the team, in coordination with traffic patrols, carried out traffic diversions at water accumulation spots. Water was sucked out through pumps that had already been in place at areas that witnessed water accumulation. The Team increased the number of pumps in the locations that experienced high levels of water accumulation.

“A large number of water tanks have been used to pump out water from various parts of the Emirate, thanks God all accumulated water have been cleared from various locations at a late hour of Saturday night. All roads of the Emirate witnessed smooth traffic flow save Sharjah-bound Emirates Road; where traffic came to a standstill due to the massive ponds that poured to the outskirts of Dubai Emirate from Sharjah Emirate. RTA has made strenuous efforts to pump out the water spilling from Sharjah where more than 8 million gallons have been sucked out and transported in more than 300 trips on board large tankers, till all accumulated water had been cleared by 01.00 pm.

DURL Consortium continues construction works of Dubai Metro Project

The Dubai Roads & Transport Authority (RTA) confirms that Dubai Rail Link (DURL) Consortium is continuing with the construction works of Dubai Metro Project according to the planned schedule, and work is progressing normally at various sites in both the Red & Green Lines to finalize the remaining works of the project; which has completed significant phases. This is reflected by the project progress in the opening of the initial phase on 09 September 2009, and the opening of the station neighbouring Burj Khalifa on 3 January 2010 i.e. four days ago.
